Guy Hand is an award-winning photographer, videographer, writer and public radio producer with an emphasis on food and farming. His video “Making a Meal” was one of three finalists in the International Association of Culinary Professional’s 2013 Digital Media Awards.

His “Freaks of the Garden” video for Boise’s Peaceful Belly Farm went viral in May 2014, receiving over a half a million views on YouTube with positive comments from The New York Daily News, Salon, Huffington Post and many others. New York University food scholar Marion Nestle tweeted: “Best local farm video ever.”

Along with his commercial photographic and video work, Hand is the managing editor and primary photographer for Edible Idaho magazine, one of over 75 regional “Edible” magazines covering the local food movement.

He also has shot video segments for a nationally-distributed PBS program called “Edible Feast.”

Hand has produced award winning radio documentaries for “Living On Earth,” “Radio High Country News,” “The Northwest News Network,” “Voice of America,” “The Splendid Table” and more. His 2002 radio program on Alaska’s Tongass National Forest won the Best Radio Feature award from the Society of Environmental Journalists. Here’s a link to many of those radio shows.

Hand has also written for “The L.A. Times,” “Orion,” “Audubon,” “Sierra,” “High Country News” and numerous other publications and anthologies.

In 2011, Hand worked on a year-long project called “The Year of Idaho Food,” including a weekly NPR program called “Edible Idaho” and an accompanying print piece published for the Boise Weekly on food and agriculture in the state of Idaho. That series won several awards, including a regional Edward R. Murrow award.
